Women treasuring Christ together

The Women’s Discipleship ministry shares the same mission as the overall mission of Treasuring Christ Church. We exist to multiply disciples who delight in, declare, and display the gospel in all of life and for the good of Ann Arbor.

We encourage all women at TCC to attend our Sunday worship gatherings and connect to a small group. However, we also want to provide a space for women of different backgrounds, ages, and life stages within TCC to meaningfully connect and build relationships, grow together in Christ, and apply the gospel in one another’s lives in areas particular to women.

We do this through 4 key pathways of ministry:

  1. Bible Studies: in the summer and winter

  2. Book Club: reading great books together over the course of the year

  3. Equip Class: hosting one Equip Class on a discipleship topic particular to women

  4. Conferences and Retreats: attending The Gospel Coalition Women’s Conference (June 2024) or hosting a retreat

You can find more information about each of these key pathways of ministry by clicking on the images below.

This Year’s Ministry Theme

Last year in Women’s Discipleship we talked through what it means to have an Unwavering Faith. We learned that to be a woman with an Unwavering Faith is one whose faith cannot be moved by the storms of life (big or small), and who doesn't get through those storms by her own strength or grit, but by the grace in which she stands and hope she holds. We focused on what it looks like to cultivate an Unwavering Faith as we grow up into Christ. This year we are shifting the focus from what it looks like to cultivate that faith primarily in ourselves to focusing on helping those around us cultivate this kind of faith. We will be learning what it means to walk intentionally ALONGSIDE one another as we live out our daily lives. God designed us for community and commanded us to not only cultivate our own faith but to help others cultivate their faith. We will be exploring the topics of mentorship, discipleship, accountability, and caring for others through suffering. We will be answering the questions, “What does it look like for me to walk alongside a sister in Christ and lovingly, gently, and intentionally help her become more like Chirst?”

In Titus 2:3-5 it says “3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God may not be reviled.”

We know that the Bible teaches and shows examples of older women teaching younger women but many of us have a lot of questions on how to interpret this verse in Titus. We don't actually know what it means to carry that out in our daily lives. We often ask the following questions... what does it mean by older women and younger women? Is that age only or maturity in Christ? What if not all women are married with children or don't work at home ? How can I pursue mentorship and be a mentor to others? Practically, how do I rearrange my life for this kind of practice? What do I have to offer other women?. We want to dive into answering some of these questions this year.

We often have the desire to intentionally walk alongside others in the Christian life but we don't always know how to practically start, end, and continue mentoring relationships. To answer these questions this year, we will dive into the Word of God, read books on mentoring and discipleship, and even practice it with one another. We will see that “mentoring is not an institute to manage - it is a lifestyle to emulate”.

Let's learn together what it looks like to live a life of mentoring others and being mentored by others.
